How a painting actually gets made

There's a version of my process that looks effortless from the outside — a finished piece, the flowers luminous, the light exactly right. What you don't see is the three weeks it took to get there. So this month, I wanted to pull back the curtain on how I go about starting, and finishing, a painting.
