Stories from my studio
How a painting actually gets made
There's a version of my process that looks effortless from the outside — a finished piece, the flowers luminous, the light exactly right. What you don't see is the three weeks it took to get there. So this month, I wanted to pull back the curtain on how I go about starting, and finishing, a painting.
Assembling a visual archive when life gets in the way
You've gathered your vase, chosen your blooms, arranged the cloth just so — and then life happens. The afternoon light disappears behind a cloud. A petal falls. You get interrupted and come back to find the whole composition has shifted. If you paint florals and still life, you know this feeling intimately.
Behind the Canvas: Q & A with an artist
Whether you’ve been following my work for a while or you’ve just stumbled upon my studio, you might have a few questions about how these paintings come to life. I’ve gathered the most frequent things I’m asked—from the flowers in my garden to the way I use oil paint—to give you a little peek behind the scenes.
