Why I moved to framed canvas prints (and why I think you’ll love them)

For a long time, collectors kept telling me the same things about paper prints — the framing, the glass, the weight. They wanted something that had the texture and look of the original oil painting. I listened. So, I spent a year looking for a printer I could trust before I found one. The result is a new collection of fine art canvas prints, professionally reproduced from my original oil paintings and arriving at your door framed and ready to hang. This is the story of why I made the switch.

WHY I MOVED TO CANVAS

For a while I offered fine art prints on cotton rag paper — properly archival, good quality, everything you'd expect. A lot of artists I know do the same and very successfully. But the feedback from my collectors was consistent, and it made me think.

Collectors loved the texture of canvas and wanted to see that come through more in a print. Another issue was the glass which posed several problems - reflections, glare, weight, and for some, the very real concern of it shattering if knocked. Others found cleaning the glass tiresome (the streaks!!). Framing was also a frustration. Quality frames with glass were expensive and the process of finding one that worked felt like an unwelcome extra step after the excitement of buying a print. Several collectors told me they simply wanted something ready to hang the moment it arrived.

I listened. And then I spent a year looking for the right printer.

Finding someone willing to produce prints of the quality I like to offer collectors (the right canvas weight, Satin finish, eco inks, colour-matched to the original, properly archival and water resistant) took longer than I expected. In the end, I found one right here where I live, which made me very happy. I always love to support a local business when I can.

I have also sourced a selection of new and vintage frames to complement the prints, so what arrives at your door is framed, finished, and ready to hang. No extra steps. And so easy to clean. Just the flick of a soft duster will do the job.

The result is something I'm genuinely proud of. Canvas sits closer to the original painting in a way that paper doesn't quite achieve — the texture, the depth, the way colour sits. I have had collectors open the box and ask, quite seriously, whether I had sent them the original by mistake. Play the video below for a closer look at my Valley View print.

Each print is reproduced on 350gsm archival satin canvas (that has the same sheen as an oil painting) using biodegradable, low-impact, gallery-quality inks — professionally printed and framed here in Australia. The satin finish gives a subtle sheen just like oil paints.

COME & HAVE A LOOK

I would love for you to see them. If there's a painting of mine you've had your eye on, it may well be in the collection — feel free to get in touch and I'll help you find it..

NEXT TIME

In my blog next month I’ll be talking about how a painting actually gets made: the beginning, middle and end.

Thank you, as always, for being part of this creative journey.
